Travel Health Tips from Therawear for Healthy Legs & Feet

These important travel health tips will help you stay healthy and comfortable while traveling. It is important that you practice good health during travel, especially if you are prone to health problems. During travel you may experience added stress and/or discomfort, which can lead to complications. Therawear believes that the more you know, the healthier you can be. Our travel health tips offer simple solutions to health problems that may arise during travel.
  • Travel Comfort
    • Wear loose and comfortable clothing while traveling.
    • Get comfortable in your seat. While flying, store your hand luggage in the overhead lockers to maximize space for your legs. You may also want to recline your seat as much as possible.
    • Use a travel foot rest to alleviate the pressure in your legs and elevate your hips.
  • Travel Food
    • Avoid eating heavy meals before and during the flight. A heavy meal may cause you to have an upset stomach and an uncomfortable flight.
    • Try to consume a light meal, and try to eat light snacks.
    • Suck on sweets or chew gum during take off and landing. This will help equalize the pressure in your sinuses and prevent ear and sinus pain.
    • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
    • Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, which can make you dehydrated.
  • Travel Health
    • Stretch your legs. Perhaps the most important travel health tip we can offer is stretching your legs. Try to get up and walk about 5-10 minutes for every hour of sitting. Stretch regularly in your seat and avoid crossing your legs.
    • Increase blood flow through your legs by pressing the balls of your feet down against the travel foot rest as much as possible. This will help reduce the risk of blood clots that may lead to Deep Vein Thrombosis.
    • Wear travel socks. Travel socks can help increase blood flow and help prevent blood clots and DVT.
    • Carry all medication. Bring all necessary medication on the flight with you and have it on hand in case of emergency. This can help ensure your health while you travel.
    • Have a document available that lists all your medical conditions and allergies. In the event of an emergency this can be a lifesaver. Remember that not everyone reads English, so if you are traveling to a country where English is not the primary language, you may want to have your list translated.
