Foot Pain Symptoms

Foot pain symptoms are often a problem for people suffering from health conditions such as neuropathy or chronic leg fatigue. Because neuropathy can cause a loss of sensation in the legs and feet, you may not initially feel irritation such as a rock in your shoe until it has caused a painful infection. Neuropathy can be one of the causes of foot pain because it prevents you from feeling small foot pains until they become more severe and often more harmful.

The most common foot pain symptoms include:
  • Burning sensation in the feet
  • Feeling of pins and needles
  • Numb feet
  • Cold feet.

Causes of Foot Pain

One of the major causes of foot pain symptoms is neuropathy, which is often caused by poor blood circulation. Neuropathy results in a loss of sensation in the legs and feet, which ultimately damages the nerves in the feet and can cause tingling or a feeling of pins and needles. If you have neuropathy, your feet may also be numb to minor irritations until they irritate your feet so much so that they become very painful.

Other causes of foot pain include diabetes, alcohol abuse, and nutritional deficiencies.

Prevent and Treat Foot Pain Symptoms

Foot pain is not a normal condition, and sufferers should see a health care provider about the various causes of foot pain. Treatment may include:
  • Taking prescription drugs
  • Applying special cooling lotions
  • Wearing socks made from moisture-wicking fibers
  • Avoiding standing for long periods of time
  • Avoiding contact with hot water.
Personal attention to your health is always the best method of controlling causes of foot pain. If you have diabetes and are experiencing foot pain symptoms, you should see a doctor for treatment options.
